For those who associate Camille Saint-Saëns only with "Carnival of the Animals" and the "Danse macabre", large parts of the œuvre of this universal French musician remain to be discovered. Amongst them are the five piano concertos presented here as a complete set: brilliantly composed show-pieces containing an abundance of melodies. Formally, these works present some of the most modern music in French instrumental repertoire from c.1870.
