Biography
Principal horn of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Guglielmo Pellarin began to play the french horn at the age of seven and graduated as a pupil of Mr. G. Arvati in the Conservatory “J. Tomadini” of Udine with first-class honours; he has attended masterclasses of horn and chamber music in Portogruaro and at Gustav Mahler Academy in Ferrara, studying along with G. Corti, I. James, L. Seeman, M. Maskuniity, A. Corsini, L. Vignali; he has also attended masterclasses given by Slowind Woodwind Quintet and Bibiena Quintet at both Pirano Music School and Chigiana Academy in Siena.
He plays with several orchestras, including the Orchestra of Teatro Verdi in Trieste, the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milano, the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala and the Orchestra Filarmonica Toscanini, under such conductors as A. Pappano, C. Abbado, J. E. Gardiner, D. Gatti, V. Gergiev, E. Inbal, D. Kytajenko, L. Maazel, K. Masur, D. Matheuz, Z. Metha, D. Oren, G. Pretre and S. Bichkov; alongside the activity as principal hornist he has also an important soloist career as well as an intense chamber music activity, that leads him to play with many artists such as A. Carbonare, M. Devia, F. Di Rosa, M. Flaksman, H. Holliger, A. Lonquich, F. Lovato, D. Nordio, A. Oliva, L. Vignali e A. Zucco.
Founding member of the Italian Wonderbrass Quintet and of the Kalamos Wind Quintet, he obtained many awards and success with concerts in Italy as well as in Albany, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Croazia, Germany, Serbia and Slovenia. The Italian Wonderbrass Quintet, featuring the trumpet player Jens Lindemann, published an unreleased version of “Pines of Rome” by O. Respighi, for brass sextet and percussions.
On the occasion of the Festival “Suoni d’aria d’alta quota” he World Premiered the concert for horn and strings composed by F. Perez Tedesco and dedicated to him.
After graduating in math at Padua University he keeps reading math at Rome University “La Sapienza” attending the master’s degree program.
Together with Federico Lovato Guglielmo Pellarin recorded for the label Audite “French Music for horn and piano”, monography dedicated to french music for horn and piano, including the first release of the sonata for french horn and piano by J. M. Damase.
